Running Costs

Many people assume that running a whole-house electrical heating system will be expensive compared to a conventional gas central heating system, with gas fuel prices rising and the initial cost of installation involved, this is no longer the case, take a look at the running costs for our systems in conjunction with the installation costs/servicing and maintenance for both types and you will see that in most cases its in the favour of electric underfloor heating systems

Approximate cost of heating a room

Running costs will always depend on many factors including the room size, the running time, as well as how well the room has been insulated; these figures are based on using our 10mm insulation boards. To get an accurate idea of typical running costs, see the table and above.

Save costs with correct insulation

During the heat-up period, as the floor reaches its set temperature, the heater is running at full power.  After this period, the heater needs to run at only half-power to maintain the set temperature. Basically, the quicker the floor warms-up, the cheaper the system is to run.

By properly insulating your floor with GS UFH Insulation Boards, you can reduce the heat-up period significantly thereby reducing running costs by as much as 50%.

Zoning Your House – Total control of heating

Conventional central heating systems tend to run all the rooms of your house at once, whether you are using them or not.  Electric systems, can be set to heat an individual room where and when you need it, if you have rooms that don’t need heating at certain times- why heat them? By correctly setting up your thermostat to suit your lifestyle, you can enjoy massive savings on your fuel bills

Electric cheaper than Gas?

According to independent energy watchdog Energy watch, since 2003, gas prices have risen by as much as 92%, while electricity prices have only increased by just 54% in the same period.

As electric underfloor heating is 99% efficient at the point of use, it makes it the most energy efficient form of heating, gas boilers waste energy by way of exhaustible gases.

Electric underfloor heating vs. conventional central heating

The typical lifespan of a gas boiler system is 10 years, according to industry estimates. Our underfloor heating systems have no moving parts to wear-out and come with a LIFETIME Warranty*.

When you take into consideration that wet systems have valves, circuit boards, solenoids, pumps, manifolds, etc its simple to see why electric underfloor heating is favourable, take a look at the list below to see why so many people now use electric underfloor heating.
